BT catches up with the power couple BHEL CMD BP Rao and wife Uma to take a peek into their blissfully married life
English author Vita Sackville West’s adage “There is nothing more lovely in life than the union of two people whose love for one another has grown through the years” might have been written for Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) CMD B Prasada Rao and wife Uma. For it seems the power couple’s 28 years of togetherness has been touched by the proverbial magic wand which has love, sublimity, understanding and all other ingredients that make for an ideal marriage bliss. Bureaucracy Today gets up close and personal with the power couple.
So, we have the corporate honcho B P Rao and his engineer wife Uma, who is also an Assistant General Manager with the BHEL, perched on a deeply comfy leather couch in the living room of their sumptuous abode situated in Khel Gaon, New Delhi, casually dressed and effusing a zing for life. As we converse with them over a cuppa of hot coffee and some lip-smacking Mysore Pak, they floor us with their conviviality and down-to-earth demeanour.
After a short tête-à-tête, when we field our first customary question on whether their marriage was a love or an arranged one, the gleam in their eyes is hard to miss. After initial hemming and hawing, BP Rao and Uma finally confess smilingly that it was a love marriage.
