Purpose and Mission
The mission of Bureaucracy Today and www.bureaucracytoday.com is to provide critical perspectives on news and events across the wide spectrum of India's administrative machinery. Under the aegis of Suhaib A Ilyasi, the pioneer behind India's crime reality India's Most Wanted, our zealous group of reporters explore the nooks and crannies of the civil services domain to break news and add fresh appeal to stories. The result is an exclusive package of news, features, interviews, summaries and talkathons that stir popular opinions and enhance the knowledge pool for researchers in India and abroad. We also aim at zooming in on the nameless faces who contribute silently to India's governance. Going forward, we strive to see the magazine develop into an impeccable news channel that bridges the gap betweeen news and research.
The road that we tread upon is fraught with hurdles, given the red-tapism that pervades India's bureaucracy, but then, it is these challenges that helped us come up with award-winning programmes like India's Most Wanted on India TV, Andha Qanoon on Zee, Fugitive on DD1 and others. Our next odyssey towards victory has only begun.

"Bureaucracy plays a vital role in implementation of welfare policies and programs launched by the government. Bureaucracy’s prime duty is to extend transparent, sensitive and answerable governance to the nation and also in foreign affairs; then only social welfare aims as per government’s intention would be achieved.I hope that this news portal would be helpful to communicate the duties of bureaucracy for fair governance." I convey my best wishes on inauguration of this news portal and wish it all the success. |

"The bureaucracy has an important role to play in governance. Both in the field of policy planning and implementation and therefore, such an endeavor is welcome. I would also like to emphasize that, in the ultimate analysis, each bureaucrat, at different levels of organization and governance, has to take responsibility and be willing to dedicate himself to the development of the society and the country. "You, your conscience and your God", has to be the governing principle for their work."I wish this venture success. |

"I was delighted to hear that an initiative has been taken by “The Bureaucracy Today” to launch a new portal focused on Civil Services, often described as bureaucracies. This initiative has not come a day too soon. The first decade of the twenty first century has been a period of sweeping and ever deepening changes in the worlds along held concepts of governance. As E.J. Hobswan has described it, people have truly entered the playground of history and are increasingly asserting their right to effective, sensitive and accountable governance. The RTI Act and many other legislative initiatives only encapsulate the popular upsurge for improved governance on which the lives of millions of people – specially the poor and the deprived – are so critically dependent. It is important, therefore, that all modern trends in matters of governance – especially relating to Civil Services – are fully focused on, collated and analyzed and made accessible not only in those who are parts of the Government, but also to those who have stakes in improvements in governance. You initiative is, therefore, both timely and relevant. I wish the initiative all success." |

"Please accept my heartiest congratulations on the launch of your print and mega news portal – “BUREAUCRACYTODAY.COM”. Bureaucracy is like air –it is there everywhere and you can not do without it. If the bureaucracy like air is fresh the health of the people and the health of the nation will be good. If it is polluted the nation become sick.It is universally accepted that the Indian Constitution and our Five Year Plan are extremely well drafted. It is also well recognized that the Indian Bureaucracy is very intelligent. At the same time, there is also universal criticism that the execution of our plans and programmes is very unsatisfactory and our bureaucracy has to take the blame squarely. One of the reasons is that in our system the field officers do not enjoy the same importance and respect as the Secretariat officials. Some of our younger officers are working in the field against great odds. Lack of good governance is the root cause of many of the problems facing the country including alienation of sections of population in many parts of the country. One of the main components of good governance is responsive administration which interacts with various stake holders and responds to their felt needs. The problems of the North East and the Naxalite situation in parts of the country, to some extent, have to be linked with the lack of responsive administration. Lack of accountability on the part of bureaucracy is another major deficiency in our system. Corruption and collusion between some un-principled politicians and willing bureaucrats is no doubt, a major challenge facing the nation. At the same time I have no doubt in my mind that the bureaucracy especially the All India Services like Indian Administrative Services and the Indian Police Services along with the Defense Services and the Railway Services played and are playing a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of the nation. All these aspects of bureaucracy need a proper study on a continuing basis and I am happy to note that your portal has decided to focus on research communication. I wish the launch a great success and hope that the portal would grow from strength to strength." |
