Corruption clouds over Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship

01 September, 2010

Lakhyajit Deka, an Accounts Officer with the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati, an autonomous national institute under the administrative control of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), lost his job twice in an attempt to unearth issues of severe financial irregularities in the institute.

It's the dismal case of a public officer serving at a crucial post in a Government-run organisation who has been cast out and denigrated for voicing against corruption.
In July 2008, barely months after assuming charge of his duties, Lakhyajit claims he noticed voucher manipulations and accounting entries without supporting papers and immediately brought it to the notice of the Director of the institute, along with documentary evidence.

Ironically, instead of an appreciation he expected for this gesture, he was first slapped with a suspension, and later his services were terminated.
