It is heartening to know that the public sector is coming out of the woods. It has come of age and is looking ahead confidently into the future. Even at a time when the slowdown has gripped the entire world economy, the character and strength displayed by public sector enterprises (PSUs) has been lauded. In this process, the role of the Standing Conference On Public Enterprises (SCOPE), which came into being in 1973, has been exemplary. In an effort to recognise the momentous contributions made by public sector enterprises (PSEs) to the nation’s economy and, more importantly, to create an awareness among people at large about their notable achievements, SCOPE, in association with the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), observed April 10 as India’s first Public Sector Day.
