Top of my mind perspectives are :
Increasing interaction with smaller agencies and bringing about a sense of belonging through tangible steps; expanding the membership base without sacrificing on the need for financial stability and credibility of agencies before they are admitted to the AAAI fold.

President, AAAI

Nagesh Alai is a well-known face in the advertising arena. He is currently the Director for Draft FCB and Ulka Advertising Pvt. Ltd and the CFO, Asia Pacific, for Draft FCB. Alai was elected President of the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) for 2010-2011 on July 30. Bureaucracy Today spoke to him about his plans and visions for the advertisers’ body and the industry per se.

Congratulations on your being elected President of the AAAI. What are the immediate issues you would like to take up?
Thank you for your wishes. Top of my mind perspectives are : Increasing interaction with smaller agencies and bringing about a sense of belonging through tangible steps; expanding the membership base without sacrificing on the need for financial stability and credibility of agencies before they are admitted to the AAAI fold ; resolving client-agency disputes in a fair and square manner and improvising on processes; inculcating business sense into the agencies so that their profitability and long-term sustainability are protected; putting the focus on continuing education of the agencies and their employees in the interest of maintaining their ability to add value to clients; working in tandem with sound educational institutions as a captive source for the talent pool required by the advertising industry ; attracting and retaining talent in a key concern area; having a harmonious working relationship with all other industry bodies like the INS, IBF, ISA, IAMAI, ASCI and ABC for a position of equality and common interest; working towards a single currency of readership/viewership surveys with the involvement of clients, media, advertising agencies and research companies; celebrating creative excellence in the truest form and working jointly with the Ad Club, Bombay, in fine-tuning and systematizing the Abby awards.
