Vijaylakshmy K Gupta Member (Finance), Telecom commission, Department of Telecommunications and Ex-officio Secretary to the Govt of India-----the Chairperson of the Bid committee and Interministerial Committee constituted for overseeing the Auctions for 3G and BWA spectrum.


The 3 G Auction has proved that if determined officers are appointed to the posts, the Govt can achieve its aims. Riding high on the success of the recent 3G spectrum auction, Vijaylakshmy K Gupta, Member (Finance), Department of Telecommunications, can finally heave a sigh of relief as the pan India price bid for 3G spectrum on May 19th 2010 stood at almost Rs.16,751 Crores as against a Reserve Price of Rs. 3500 crores. At the moment the exchequer will realize close to Rs Sixty Seven Thousand Seven Hundred and Nineteen crores and the amount will rise further when the auction for BWA Spectrum closes.

Gupta adds, "The response has been tremendous and we all are extremely happy with the outcome." Has to be, the revenue was reportedly estimated to be Rs 35,000 crores. She smiles as she takes it as one of the milestones and a key juncture of her professional journey as Financial Adviser. While her being a popular Financial Adviser during her career of more than 3 ˝ decades amazed her seniors ,and made her colleagues envious, Vijaylakshmy has been dealing with her work as Financial Adviser with great confidence and without any fear or being amenable to pressures. She adds, "A person cannot work if he/she succumbs to pressure or is afraid to take the right stand---but at the same time if you are clear about achieving the aims of the Organization –you can succeed --- If your motive is genuine, people will appreciate".
